Stereoscopic Card - Room at Treasury

The Treasury Collection contains extensive holdings of 19th century stereoscopic cards with views of the Treasury Building. This particular card is extremely rare in depicting a clerical office at Treasury curing the Civil War when women constituted the primary labor force. The image also depicts how a Treasury office in the mid-19th century was arranged and furnished, elements that assist the Department with the restoration of the historic Treasury Building. (Gift of the Treasury Historical Association)
