Charles G. Schott

Charles Schott is Treasury’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Trade and Investment Policy, responsible for Treasury’s participation in U. S. trade negotiations and for matters relating to international investment. His office is active on World Trade Organization and free trade agreement issues, particularly those relating to financial services and investment. His office also oversees the Treasury-chaired interagency Committee of Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).

Before coming to Treasury, Mr. Schott founded Paradigm Partners, LLC, a strategic advisory firm based in New Canaan, CT (1997-2003). He also served as one of the founding executives of Hearst New Media & Technology, an operating group of the Hearst Corporation in New York City (1993-97), where he was responsible for the creation and operation of Hearst New Media Ventures. He also worked as a management consultant in the London, U. K. office of McKinsey & Company (1992-93) and as a corporate attorney in the New York and Washington, DC offices of Dewey Ballantine (1979-81).

Prior positions in the U. S. Government have included serving as Chief of Staff (1989-91) and Division Chief for Mass Media Policy (1984-86) at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and as Deputy Assistant Secretary and Deputy Administrator of the National Telecommunications & Information Administration (NTIA) in the Department of Commerce (1986-89).

Mr. Schott received his Masters of Business Administration (1983) and Bachelors degree in History (1974) from Stanford University. He also has a J. D. Degree from the University of Michigan Law School (1977).
